Iran is expected to hold a presidential election on June 28. The country moved its presidential election up from 2025, following the May 2024 death of President Ebrahim Raisi. Raisi was killed in a helicopter crash.
The presidency is the second-most powerful position in Iran, below the unelected Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Six candidates have been approved to run for the presidency, and they are all ultimately loyal to the Iranian political system.
