First off, and I cannot say this enough, thank you again to Andy, Mike, and Palomar Solar for letting me get my filthy mitts on this car. I am not worthy.
I've been obsessed with classic racecars since forever, so when I got a call from a friend that they purchased a vintage Ginetta sports racer and wanted me to help shake it down...and maybe even race it...best believe I will drop everything to go do that.
The car is a 1968 Ginetta G16. There are something like 7 of these in existence. It's powered by a BMW M10 engine making around 200hp at the wheels, and revs to about 8500rpms (though I was shifting at 7ish for the shakedown.) It weighs somewhere in the 1400lb range. It has a dogleg 5 speed dogbox transmission. The tires are Avon bias plys. It's right hand drive and right hand shifter, but the pedals are more or less in the middle. It's a very strange car to sit in, but an absolute joy to drive. Steering is light, gearing is close, power is excellent, and once the gremlins are addressed and I push it a little harder, I expect it to be in the 1:53 range at 13CW.
What a car.
