Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics states that appropriately planned vegetarian and vegan diets are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits for the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. They explicitly note that these diets are suitable for all life stages, including older adulthood. This is a respected position paper you can find on their website or in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
