Elephant Collaring in Zinave

Описание: This week, PeaceParks.TV joins the Zinave National Park team on a mission to fit a GPS tracking collar on an elephant. This operation is not just about tagging one elephant; it’s about securing the future of the entire population of an estimated 233 elephants in the park and promoting peaceful coexistence between people and wildlife.

Mozambique Wildlife Alliance vet Dr Hagnesio Chiponde is able to sedate the chosen elephant thanks to Parks Foundation’s pilot Delport Botma, who locates the herd from the air. Once the team has fitted her collar, she reunites with her family. The park can now monitor their movements and behaviour, which will provide important information needed to make decisions that keep both local communities and elephants safe.

In tightly co-ordinated operations such as these, partnerships are key to success. The Mozambique Government and Peace Parks are working together to protect, restore, and manage Zinave, where ecosystems and wildlife are flourishing thanks to committed conservation efforts.
