The Keutenberg is with its 22% gradient the steepest climb of The Netherlands. The Amstel Gold Race is rather uninspiring until then, but with the Keutenberg in sight, the race starts to come to life.
It is Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha) who attacks on the climb, but does not manage to get away. Andy Schleck (Leopard Trek) on the plateau after the climb and manages to get a gap. It forces favourite Philippe Gilbert to lead the pursuit himself. The final of the Amstel Gold Race has finally started.
