Can a NEW ROOF be installed during the WINTER??

Описание: A question we are asked regularly involves installing new roofs during the winter months. Can it be done? Is it a good idea? Some people have been told for years and years that its always a bad idea to install a roof in cold weather. While there is some truth to the belief, like anything else it's complicated.

Some things to consider when thinking about a winter time roofing install.
1. Location- The winter season can vary wildly in the US, Minnesota consistently has one of the harshest winters while Alabama or Georgia will on average be much milder. So when you think "winter time" what does that look like in your area?
2. Air Temperature- Here in Kentucky the weather can change drastically quickly, changes of 40 degrees in a 24 hour period are fairly common. As a result we are more focused on the the conditions and not the calendar. During the winter months we have lots of days that are 20 degrees or less, and lots of days that are 50 or 60 degrees. These are suitable days for roofing, no matter what month we are in!
3. Shingle Type- Always consult the shingle manufacturer for installation specifics, but most require a high temperature of 40 degrees. As a result of this we have a high temperature minimum of 40 degrees as well.

Consult your roofer to talk temperature and if you are going to get a "winter time" roof installation, just be sure to schedule it on a good weather day. The outside temperature is your main concern!
