The discussions aim to build on the 60-day ceasefire agreement and secure a lasting end to the nearly four-month conflict between Washington and Tehran. The interim agreement was brokered by Pakistan and signed by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

However, the talks are taking place amid renewed tensions over the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's Revolutionary Guard announced the closure of the strategic waterway following Israeli strikes in Lebanon, while the US military stated that commercial shipping operations continue.
