Hoachanas Children Fund – action towards food and nutrition security 1/2

Описание: This video forms part of NAFSAN’s Stories of Change clips, documenting the experiences of leaders from Namibian Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) working to advance nutrition, food security, and public health in Namibia. They were recorded several months after these leaders participated in an interactive Training-for-Facilitators on Nutrition for Health: Embracing our Namibian Food Systems (https://nafsan.org/n4h)

These ‘Stories of Change’ demonstrate how this training, awareness raising, and nutrition dialogues can inspire local actions, such as taking up gardening at home and/or sharing nutritional knowledge with community members. These stories also show how such actions contribute to improved health outcomes, greater resilience at household level and overall, more sustainable food systems.

Kenneth Rheent - the Project Coordinator at Hoachanas Children Fund in Namibia’s Hardap region - shares how nutrition and food security training has strengthened his work in the community. Through backyard gardening initiatives linked to Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres and other local initiatives, families are now producing their own food, and the settlement of Hoachanas has made remarkable progress towards zero malnutrition.
His story shows how practical knowledge, when shared passionately and widely, can restore hope and dignity, reduce dependency, and build healthier families from the ground up.

By bringing out these voices, NAFSAN likes to emphasize the importance of strengthening food systems and improving nutrition, and that this requires well-coordinated multisectoral efforts from various stakeholders, including civil society, local government, communities, as well as the private sector. Most importantly, it highlights the need for inclusive bottom-up approach, because lasting change starts at community level.
