Learn to make breakaway dinner plates for fight scenes using plaster of paris. It's pretty safe, but try it at your own risk.
Basically all you have to do is mix 1 part water with 2 parts plaster of paris and poor the mixture into a plastic mold (like a tray or large bowl). Then wait til it dries.
