Hi everyone,
My name is Peggy Mason and I am a professor of neurobiology at the University of Chicago. Here I introduce the basics of brain anatomy using human and sheep brain dissections. The video is just over an hour long and you will learn the basic divisions of the brain: hindbrain, midbrain, forebrain (consisting of di- and tel- encephalon). You will then see how the dorsal telencephalon which gives rise to the cerebral cortex expands every which way in the mammal, eventually doing a "comb-over" on top of the diencephalon, midbrain and most of the hindbrain. This comb-over allows the brain to fit in the cranium, the bony vault in the skull.
Enjoy the mammalian brain! And if you're interested in more (mammalian) neuroanatomy, let me know what you want to see next. I will try to oblige.
