Experience an amazing close-up visit from a Pileated Woodpecker at our mini feeder during bitterly cold February weather in Nicolet National Forest, northern Oconto County, Wisconsin! The Pileated Woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus) is North America’s largest living woodpecker (about the size of a crow) and a year-round resident in Wisconsin’s mature forests. Famous for their bright red crests and powerful drumming, they normally excavate large rectangular holes in dead trees to feed on carpenter ants and beetle larvae. In harsh winters, however, they readily come to suet and seed feeders, giving us rare, intimate views like this one. Our family-friendly channel, jj's jungle, runs two relaxing 24/7 live streams straight from the forest:
The McCaslin Brook cam overlooking a beautiful, partially frozen trout stream
The forest mini feeder cam where birds, deer, squirrels, and even nocturnal flying squirrels appear day and night
Perfect calming nature content for all ages — watch snow fall, listen to gentle forest sounds, and enjoy surprise wildlife moments any time. Subscribe and hit the bell 🔔 so you never miss a highlight!
