My sister and I laughed at something while playing Minecraft, but she was slouching, so then she started hiccuping. What usually works is Tums followed by a sip or two of water, but she drank too much water, so it progressed into stronger hiccups (which is exhausting after a while), until Mom came home and remembered the sugar-under-the-tongue trick, but not before we laughed over it for a while and made jokes. I acted as "translator" for some hiccups. Video starts when she was over in the kitchen taking Tums.
Update, July 29, 2020: So we just found out it's likely acid reflux disease. She's going to be trying some medicine to help manage the heartburn and hiccups. We still laugh at her hiccups (most sound like a little dog, a frog, a parrot, and the strong ones you hear here), but she won't miss the pain.
Update, 2021: She had an upper endoscopy (thankfully sedated). Nothing concerning found. Doctor confirmed the hiccup issue is likely due to her diaphram being irritated, but had no explanation, nor any idea what it could be beyond that. I have a hunch it's due to her scoliosis and poor posture (and perhaps a little weight gain, but posture mostly affected by slouching to one side and sitting for long periods of time) leading to a pinched nerve, as she also has been having arm jerk issues when placing down objects (plate clatter on desk) or lifting things to her face (rams a cup or taps a spoon into her teeth).
It's disappointing when so many doctors these days are better at money-making tactics (prescribing, etc.) than they are at knowing what's wrong or acting as investigators to mysteries and solving them (partly due to the way their memory is trained and tested in school, but several other reasons are to blame, so I don't want to get too far into it).
I'm not giving up, though. Not on her. Too many people have given up on her or mistreated her like an animal, and it's sickening. Medium case or not, autism shouldn't mean being belittled, bullied, abused, dehumanized, lonely, shunned, avoided, underestimated, overestimated, ignored, disrespected, or taken advantage of, and I think a change in how society treats one another has to start with who is training/teaching/raising children, and that involves teachers and parents/guardians/caregivers having well-worded explanations and discussions with children, eye-opening looks into others' lives in documentaries and speeches, as well as being a good role model of the change you want to see in the world.
