Are Jody's Watches worthy of the hype?

These microbrand watches from Jody and Steven receive a lot of hype . . . are they truly worth the heavy breathing? Let’s take a look at two Ascents I recently purchased from this small independent Australian brand.

We’ll look briefly at the Erebus brand and it’s three model offerings, then in detail at the Ascent 41. Please note, the Ascent is available in multiple colors and multiple case sizes, from 34mm to 41mm – the selection is incredible!

Following the Ascents, we’ll take a quick look at three other competing brands I’ve acquired and highlight some of their strengths.

If you are looking for a reasonably priced, GO ANYWHERE, DO ANYTHING (GADA) watch, these are some of the best currently available. So, are they worth the hype? YES INDEED! These pieces are superbly made with quality components, very affordably priced, have solid quality control and compete on par with other brands priced well above the Ascent’s price range. Do they compete with an OP on the market for about $10k? Not on an equivalent basis . . . HOWEVER, at 5% of the price of an OP, I believe a valid argument can be made that the Ascent (and its discussed “competitors”) are a viable option to satisfy that need for the GADA watch.
