Come join us for another travel episode from South Korea as we say goodbye to Busan on a day trip sharing our first impressions visiting Daegu. After spending an extended amount of time exploring Busan, both David and I were excited to head over to Daegu to check out the 3rd biggest city in Korea.
We started off our morning bright and early at Busan station grabbing a delicious Korean bibimbap breakfast that included soup and side dishes. We then caught a KTX train from Busan to Daegu which was just a short ride. Feeling refreshed and excited to be in a new city we took a long taxi ride over to Daegu Tower. As one of the only people in the tower, we had fantastic views of Daegu. Our first impressions of the city is that it is far bigger than we had originally anticipated. Also, it is very mountainous, green and has more traditional architecture than in Busan.

We can't wait to explore more in Daegu and we hope you'll stay tuned for our future episodes where we check out street, markets, and restaurants in Daegu, Korea.
🚄 Day Trip from Busan to Daegu! | KTX Bullet Train, Ultimate Korean Breakfast & Daegu Tower Views 🇰🇷
🌞 Early Morning in Busan: Starting Our Daegu Adventure
Good morning from beautiful Busan, South Korea! Today marks a special episode as we bid farewell to Busan and hop aboard the KTX Express bullet train for a day trip to Daegu, Korea’s fourth-largest city. With just a 50-minute train ride ahead, we’re set for a full day of sightseeing, food, and adventure.
🍽️ Busan Station Breakfast: Bibimbap & More
Early Eats: One of the best things about Korea? Train stations are alive early—every restaurant, café, bakery, and even pharmacy is open by 7:30 a.m.
Breakfast Choice: After wandering around the second level, we opt for bibimbap at a multi-station eatery. You order at a counter, grab a ticket, and pick up your food at a designated station.
Meal Highlights:
Bibimbap (with purple rice, egg, and bean sprouts for extra creaminess)
Soondubu jjigae (spicy silken tofu soup with egg)
Fried fish and assorted banchan (side dishes)
Affordable & Filling: Huge, hearty breakfast for only $8 USD! The flavors are rich, unique, and the portions keep you energized all day. Highly recommend “Vintage 38” at Busan Station.
🚅 KTX Express: The Fastest Way to Daegu
Punctuality: Korea is legendary for on-time departures. Zero delays!
Train Features:
All seats face the direction of travel—no awkward backwards rides.
Spacious, comfortable, and affordable ($15 USD one way in economy).
Scenic Ride: Smooth and efficient, just 50 minutes from Busan to Dongdaegu Station.
🏙️ First Impressions of Daegu: City Life & Surprises
Arriving in Daegu: Stepping out of the station, the city buzzes with energy—SWAT teams, drones, and what looks like a movie being filmed right outside!
Atmosphere:
Weather: Surprisingly hot and sunny (Daegu is Korea’s hottest city—come prepared in summer!).
Architecture: More traditional homes and mid-rises than Busan; city core is filled with modern high-rises, huge avenues, and green spaces.
Surroundings: Daegu is ringed by mountains, giving the city a stunning backdrop and a distinctive climate.
🗼 Daegu Tower (Tower 83): City from Above
Iconic Landmark: The 83-floor Daegu Tower is a must-visit, with its observation deck on the 77th floor.
Panoramic Views:
Sweeping 360-degree vistas over Daegu’s sprawling cityscape, massive parks, and encircling mountains.
Unique features: A theme park at the base, tennis courts, coffee shops, and even a “sky jump” (if you’re brave!).
World Towers Exhibit: Compare Daegu Tower to other global landmarks like Namsan Tower and Shanghai’s Pearl Tower.
Café in the Clouds: Sip a matcha green tea latte while taking in the sights (only ₩2,900—less than $3 USD).
🌇 Observations & Tips
Daegu Vibes:
The city is bigger and more dynamic than expected.
Even midweek mornings are uncrowded at the tower, making it perfect for relaxed sightseeing.
The blend of tradition and modernity is everywhere, from rooftop homes with clay pots to cutting-edge skyscrapers.
Travel Advice:
Avoid Daegu in July & August if you don’t like the heat!
Trains are easy, affordable, and always on time.
Start your adventure early to maximize your day.
