And it says later in the Torah: "You shall not do as they do in the land of Egypt, where you lived." [Leviticus 18:1-3]. So are observant Jews allowed to celebrate birthdays or not? There is no definitive answer and the dispute is still ongoing. Let's examine the arguments of each side.
