As you probably know, the aorta is the largest artery in the body. It transports oxygenated blood from the left ventricle of the heart to the rest of the body via arteries branching away from the aorta. In its course the aorta descends through the abdomen to split up into the common iliac arteries. The part travelling through the abdomen is called abdominal aorta.

In this video we will explore the topography and anatomy of the abdominal aorta and tell you about its paired (e.g. renal and suprarenal arteries) and unpaired (e.g. celiac trunk, superior and inferior mesenteric artery) branches. The branches of the aorta can also be classified into visceral (associated with organs), parietal and terminal branches.
