Black-and-white surveillance recording from the Aurora Police Department, captured shortly after James Holmes' arrest on July 20, 2012, following the Century 16 theater shooting.
Holmes is in an interrogation room approximately two hours after the attack, during an initial interview with detectives Matthew Appel and Robert Mehl. The footage, provides a stark, unfiltered glimpse into his demeanor immediately post-arrest. Holmes appears shirtless (or with his torn T-shirt partially removed or hiked up, exposing his upper body), wearing only white boxer shorts and white socks. His body shows visible signs of the night's chaos: sweaty, disheveled hair (previously dyed bright orange, now matted), smeared black eye makeup from his tactical gear, and a vacant, almost catatonic expression.
