Lionel Richie story:

Mentioned but not explained in my videos is the story of Lionel Richie and a pineapple.

I was a catering manager at Mobile Municipal Auditorium, which was interesting because no two events were the same. Detailed catering instructions (called a "rider") were provided by all musical acts prior to their performance at the arena. Very specific and often unusual food prep was common as each artist seemed to have eclectic tastes. We always eagerly awaited riders to see what surprises awaited.

Mr. Richie requested a "perfectly proportioned and symmetrical" whole pineapple. Much time was spent in local stores after which three pineapple candidates were selected.

Mr. Richie was presented with what we thought was the best one. He rejected it. We presented a second one which he exclaimed was perfect. I have no idea of the fate of that pineapple, it was gone from his dressing room after the concert.
