Psalms 86:7 (KJV)
"In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me."

This verse is part of David’s plea for God's mercy. In the full context of Psalm 86, David acknowledges the Lord’s goodness, longsuffering, and readiness to forgive, contrasting the one true God with all other so-called gods.

Verse 7 captures his confidence in calling upon God, not from ritual, but from relationship and faith in God’s character.

It mirrors Paul’s declaration in Romans 10, 12 to 13:"For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

David called in trouble, expecting an answer. Paul expands this to all people. Calling on the Lord in faith brings not just an answer, but salvation itself. David’s trust foreshadows the Gospel of Grace. He came to God personally with a heart trusting in God’s mercy.

Paul shows this access is now open to all, not through Israel’s covenant alone, but by grace through faith in Christ. This also echoes 2 Corinthians 6, 2:"...behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation."

David didn’t wait to call upon God, and neither should we. God hears all who call in faith. Through Christ, that day of trouble can become a day of salvation.

Encouragement of the Day
In trouble, where do you turn first? David turned to God because he knew God would answer. That confidence wasn’t in David’s worthiness, but in God's mercy. Today, we have greater confidence because the Gospel of Grace has been fully revealed.

Jesus paid the price so we can come boldly, not fearfully, to God's throne.
Are you waiting for a better day to seek God? The best day is now. Like David, call upon the Lord because He will answer.

Today, His answer is ready in Christ: forgiveness, peace, and eternal life for all who believe. Do not wait for the storm to pass. Call upon Him in the storm, and let grace bring you peace.
