Join me and @MrE- as we explore this unique and imposing derelict foundry - part of the rich tradition of glass making in St Helens in England.
Pilkington Brothers started extracting sand deposits at Rainford in 188O and sand was brought to the Sandwash by wagons to get rid of oversized or undersized particles and wash off impurities. It was then transported to the glass works in St Helens and used to make high quality sheet glass. The plant closed sometime during the 60s.
