This session was created using a DIY flute machine built with three slide flutes and a fan. This is not the first time I have constructed this instrument — it is a recurring tool in my practice that allows for microtonal movement, continuous glissandi, and slowly shifting harmonic relationships.
The main source of inspiration for this session is György Ligeti’s Requiem, a work famously used in Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, particularly the scene where the apes encounter the black monolith. That moment left a deep impression on me, largely because of Ligeti’s music, which remains one of my strongest musical influences.
Ligeti often works with very simple musical ideas that become incredibly powerful through time, texture, and microtonal evolution. The ascending and descending microtonal glissandi of his Requiem are concepts I frequently return to in my own improvisations. I’m drawn to the idea of constantly moving microtonal tones that intersect, overlap, and form impermanent chords — harmonic states that are never fixed, always in flux. This is a musical language I feel deeply comfortable exploring.
This ambient improvisation unfolds as a slow, evolving microtonal drone built from organic flute glissandi and textured loops. The result is a minimal, experimental, and introspective sound space — designed for deep listening, stillness, and immersion.
Loops and textures evolve unpredictably, sometimes melodic, sometimes glitchy, always immersive.Tape imperfections and analog warmth become part of the composition.Thanks for listening until the end.
