Intermediate Level Pole Tutorial
Suggested Pre-requisite Moves
Figure Head, Embrace or elbow grip spin
Key Tips
Key Tip 1- Elbow and under crease of bottom are the major grip points, plus your bottom leg
Key Tip 2- Set it up sideways on the pole, then turn your chest
Key Tip 3- Start higher up on the pole so you can slide down into the pose
Key Tip 4- Use your outside hand to hold and lean away from the pole to change your grip from your armpit to your elbow
Key Tip 5- Keep lifting your back leg as you slide down
Key Tip 6- Slide your bottom foot down the pole
Key Tip 7 – Point toes up towards the ceiling, bottom foot and back leg
Strength Tips
Lift your back leg engage your hamstrings and glutes. Lifting the leg will also make your butt grip point stronger.
-Lift all your toes up towards the ceiling.
-Keep extended through your upper back by lifting your chest. This will keep your back extensors engaged.
-Pull your shoulders back down to hold your postural position.
-Engage your abs to hold your position on the pole.
Graceful Tips
-Take your time with the transitions, including grip changes and hand placements
-Slide down into the pose
-Softly lift arm, lift your chest for poise
-Look past fingers as you spin in the shape, elongating your neck with your chin slightly lifted
-Keep a soft face while spinning
-Swap hands on your last climb for smoother entry
