Описание: Come join us in for lunch trying Shabu Shabu (しゃぶしゃぶ) also known as Japanese Hot Pot in Tokyo, Japan. Shabu-shabu (しゃぶしゃぶ) is a dish we first tried together while teaching in South Korea. We loved it and wanted to try eating it for the first time in Japan. For those who have never shabu shabu before it is a hotpot dish (Japanese nabemono) consisting of thinly sliced meat (beef or pork) with vegetables boiled in a watery broth. Shabu shabu literally means swish swish and makes for great do it yourself social meal as it is cooked in various stages at your table.

In order to prepare shabu-shabu you dip the thin slices of meat or vegetables in boiling hot dashi (broth) made with kelp (konbu) before dunking it in sauces such as ponzu or goma (sesame seed). Often shabu-shabu is served with either rice and/or noodles.

it is time for another food video here in Tokyo. And today we are having Shabu-Shabu (しゃぶしゃぶ). That is Japanese hot pot and this is a dish we've had so many times when we were living in Korea. This is our first time trying it in Japan so it is going to be pretty cool.

We've already got the pot here at the table and we've ordered pork and beef so we're going to be cooking two different types of meat.

Also lots of veggies so this should be really tasty. It has been a long time since I had shabu-shabu (しゃぶしゃぶ).

Okay so the meat has arrived at the table. I'm guessing the lighter one is pork yes and this other one is beef. And underneath we have a whole bunch of veggies like cabbage and I don't know leafy greens, some tofu. Yep.

So we're just going to be adding all of it in and letting it cook because the water is already bubbling.

So I'm just going to use my hands here. And start adding stuff in. Get them veggies in the pot. Some tofu. Woah!

I remember in Korea they would give us scissors to like chop up all of the veggies but here it is already been pre-chopped so I'm just getting it all in there. It kind of makes it nice.

So yeah guys you cook the veggies well first yeah before you put in the meat. That is the key to shabu shabu (しゃぶしゃぶ).

I would have to say like even though this was really good I prefer Korean shabu-shabu (しゃぶしゃぶ) just because I feel like that has different courses. Yeah.

And like I'm getting more food and more of a culinary experience at the table. Yeah, that is a good point. Mmmhmm.

Um but anyways let's talk about the price. The total for this was 2,100 Yen which is $19 US dollars and also this was a lunch special so it is a lot cheaper to eat Shabu-Shabu (しゃぶしゃぶ) for lunch than it is for dinner.

Also when we were trying to find a shabu shabu (しゃぶしゃぶ) restaurant we noticed that most of the restaurants only opened for dinner. From 5pm onwards so you'll want to do some research before you head out and make sure you're going to a restaurant that serves shabu-shabu (しゃぶしゃぶ) for lunch. Otherwise it might be disappointing.
