He had to apply eight times before being accepted into the Communist Party's youth league and 10 times before being admitted into the Communist Party," The Hindu's China correspondent Ananth Krishnan -- who has written a book called 'India's China Challenge' -- said at an Institute of Chinese Studies' webinar. "This is why Xi has been far more adept than his predecessor in wielding political power," Krishnan added.
