Advice on Trochanteric Bursitis or Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome (GTPS) across sitting, sleeping and walking to reduce compression on the side of your hip.
In sitting sit with your knee over your toes and try not to cross your legs across the midline of your body. Also if you're in a job where you sit in low chairs, e.g. a primary school teacher, then sitting in higher chairs will reduce the force through your lateral hips.
If you sleep on your side the same principle applies, do not cross your legs and place a pillow in-between your knees to help prevent this.
In walking, walk with a slightly wider gait if your walking style is narrow. A simple tip is imagine you are placing your feet either side of double yellow lines.
