In Malawi, tobacco farming is like slavery, the workers say. Tobacco companies control the entire process. They grant loans for fertilizer and seeds and set the price the farmer is paid at harvest. Tobacco farming in Africa is dangerous work, yet farmers often make nothing. That’s especially true when they don’t include their children's and their own labor as expenses. In this short video by @exposetobacco learn about growers’ lives and hear how a project in Kenya shows ways African tobacco farmers can transition into alternative crops.
