The Future of Peacekeeping Missions in Africa
With the geopolitical dynamics in Africa and the rise of transnational actors - organized criminals or terrorist networks, for example - the nature of conflicts has changed radically since the end of the Second World War, when the first "classic" peacekeeping operations took place. Hence the need for an imperative change in both responsibilities and operational strategies for peacekeeping missions in Africa. UN and regional peace operations are now under additional pressure to adapt. It is therefore important to examine the challenges and prospects of this new geopolitical dynamic in/on Africa, Canada and the rest of the world.
