Ceylon tea is a global brand. Tea is one of the biggest income earners for Sri Lanka. But an average tea picker earns less in a day than what you pay for a cup of tea at your local cafe.
Tamils of Indian origin living and working in the tea plantations are one of the most economically and socially deprived communities in Sri Lanka. They have historically suffered marginalization and discrimination.
