I am writing to bring to your attention serious safety concerns and organizational failures I experienced at a recent lantern festival event in Thailand. The event was advertised as a premium cultural jexperience, including transportation, cultural activities, a buffet meal, and premium seating for the lantern lighting. However, the reality was shockingly different and posed significant risks to attendees.

Transportation Chaos and Health Risks
The event began at Maya Shopping Center, but there was no clear signage or staff to direct attendees. After eventually locating the check-in area, we received stickers to place on our phones. These stickers caused permanent damage to phone cases due to their adhesive.

The transportation process was even more alarming. Guests waited in line for nearly four hours under the hot sun, without any shade, water, or access to restrooms. There were no staff present to monitor or manage the lines, leaving attendees exposed to extreme heat and dehydration. When buses finally arrived, the situation descended into chaos. Multiple lines formed, and people rushed the buses in a disorderly manner. Physical fights broke out between attendees, and some guests even attacked the few staff members present. This lack of organization created a highly dangerous environment for everyone involved.

Firework Hazards and Negligence
Upon arrival at the venue, we were deprived of the cultural events promised in the ticket package because of the delays. Instead, we were rushed to eat dinner before being hurried to the lantern-lighting area. During the meal, fireworks were launched without any warning or safe distancing measures. Our table was dangerously close to the launch area, and one of our party members was struck on the hand by a firework projectile. The proximity of the fireworks demonstrated a complete disregard for attendee safety.

Substandard Cultural Show
The cultural performance was deeply disappointing and lacked authenticity. Performers mimed playing instruments rather than delivering a genuine experience. The emcees’ commentary felt unprofessional, more suited to a carnival than a cultural event. Additionally, there was no explanation of the festival’s history or significance, and no announcements were made in Thai, which was disrespectful to the Thai attendees present.

Dangerous Lantern-Lighting Practices
The most serious safety issues arose during the lantern lighting. Instructions were unclear, leading many attendees to release their lanterns prematurely. This resulted in lanterns falling back into the crowd, causing fires and injuries. One lantern nearly set my hair and face on fire, while others struck nearby attendees, including a child. Fires broke out in multiple areas because attendees were not instructed to hold their lanterns long enough before release. The chaotic and unsafe environment could have led to serious injuries or even fatalities.

Departure Mayhem
As the event concluded, the transportation process repeated the earlier chaos. Fearing another dangerous scene, we left early and managed to board one of the first buses. However, the lack of organization meant many guests were left struggling in another chaotic mob.

Request for Action
This event posed significant risks to public safety and failed to meet even basic standards of organization. Attendees were exposed to dehydration, physical altercations, fire hazards, and an overall unsafe environment. Given these serious concerns, I strongly urge Thai authorities to investigate this event and the organization responsible. Measures must be taken to ensure that future events prioritize the safety and well-being of attendees.
