Hi. This is Wayne from Sears PartsDirect. Today we're going to talk about cleaning a smooth-top range correctly, so you won’t damage it. You probably got a bottle of cleaner with your range. This is the best cleaner to use and the one that the manufacturer recommends. If you've already used up that cleaner, you can order more from SearsPartsDirect.com. Allow the range to cool before you start cleaning. First, put on some rubber gloves and gently scrape off burned-on crust from spills using a metal razor blade scraper. Use a new scraper or razor blade each time. Scraping the cooktop with a old razor can scratch the surface. Hold the blade at a 30-degree angle when scraping. After removing burned-on crust, shake the bottle of cleaner and then pour some on the cooktop. Rub the surface vigorously using a sponge, soft cloth or paper towel. Don't use steel wool or an abrasive pad. That can scratch the glass. Once you're finished cleaning the cooktop, wipe off all the residue. Buff the cooktop with a paper towel to restore the shine so it looks brand new. Now, certain spills on a cooktop require immediate action. Scrape melted plastic or spills with a high sugar content like caramel or pie filling off the cooktop immediately, before the cooktop cools completely. Letting it cool can cause pitting, which dulls the shine and permanently damages the cooktop surface. Be sure to use an oven mitt or pad to protect your hand from the hot surface. Use a razor blade scraper to remove as much of the mess as possible. After the cooktop cools, scrape off any remaining residue and then clean and polish the cooktop using the crème. Even if you don't have spills, use the cleaning crème to polish your cooktop once a month. To prevent scratches, only use pots and pans with smooth bottoms and keep the bottoms of your cookware clean. Burned-on residue can scratch the surface of your cooktop. You can clean the bottom of your pots and pans with a non-abrasive kitchen cleanser like Bar Keeper’s Friend. When you move pots and pans, lift them, don’t slide them. Sliding cookware across the surface can scratch it. Cast iron and glass cookware scratch cooktops the easiest. Aluminum and copper pots can leave metal marks if you slide them across the surface. If that happens, let the cooktop cool and clean the marks off with the crème. Metal marks can become permanent if not cleaned immediately. Hey, thanks for watching.
