The Spotlights -

(Smash Records S-2020) 1966
AKA The Allman Joys (Pre The Allman Brothers)

Snuff Garrett, JJ Cale, and Lou Courtney.
Nice novelty garage in studio surf unit style.
Written by L. Pegues, L. Russell, T. L. Garrett.
Louis Pegues (Lou Courtney)-Leon Russell-
Tommy Garrett (Snuff Garrett)
This track is also on The Super Dupers LP that Pickwick Records
released on a variety of their budget labels from 1966
on Design DLP-257 (1966) & multiple Pickwick labels (after 1966,
same DLP stock number)
Flip Flip Not on album.
Excellent go-go instro with The Beatles "Day Tripper" style guitar.
Written by L. Russell, T. Garrett, S. Singleton.
Leon Russell-Tommy Garrett (Snuff Garrett)-Shelby Singleton.
Both sides Produced by Snuff Garrett, Leon Russell.
Studio group assembled by Snuff Garrett and Leon Russell
to go to New York & cut an album of "cartoon songs".
JJ Cale and Lou Courtney were also involved.
Lou Courtney (Louis Pegues) would later become
a founding member of The Fifth Dimension.
The musicians chosen included The Spotlights from
Florida (later The Allman Joys). The 12 tracks were scheduled
for release as a Spotlights LP on Smash.
The Spotlights "Batman And Robin And 11 Other Funny Book Favorites"
Although a test album with 12 songs on one side,
Smash Records SRS 67081 was made in 1965 and
included the catalog number, title, and track listing,
the album was never released because
the master tapes were lost and never found.
8 of the 12 tracks appear on The Super Dupers LP,
at least 2 of the remaining 4 appear on the second Spotlights 45.
Perhaps the album was shelved by Smash and only the 45s
were released and then Snuff Garrett instead shopped the tracks
to Pickwick for the budget releases as The Super Dupers.
