Exercise Ram Stallion 2022 saw a combat team of Australian Army soldiers from 8th/9th Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment (8/9 RAR) airlifted from RAAF base Amberley to Wellcamp Airport at Toowoomba, southern Queensland. Exercise Ram Stallion was the lead in activity for 8/9 RAR’s insertion to Exercise Diamond Strike 2022 in the Wide Bay Training Area.
The activity demonstrated the readiness of 8/9 RAR to force project a motorised combat team, with 18 Australian Army Bushmasters and 150 troops in fighting order being transported on Royal Australian Air Force C-17A Globemaster IIIs. The activity tested the capability of Army to integrate with RAAF logistics to ensure the battalion is ready for future tasking.
