Moose Mountain is a fantastic summer hiking destination near Bragg Creek, Alberta. It's a moderate hike with stunning views from the summit. The trail starts at the end of Moose Mountain Road, accessible via Highway 66. The first part of the hike is through forested areas, but as you ascend, the landscape opens up, offering breathtaking views. The summit features a working fire lookout, and the trail is well-marked and popular among hikers and mountain bikers. Canadian Rockies Hike.
June 22/2021 Spring Hike
Today we are in Kananaskis Public Land Use Zone, and we will be hiking up to the summit of Moose Mountain. The trail is 13.8km out and back, with an elevation gain of 766m. Just so you know, once you turn off Highway 66, you will be traveling up a gravel road to the trailhead. This road is not in the best shape.
For the first 5k of the hike you will be on a very wide trail in the trees. Once you breakout above the tree line, you will summit the first peak, and then go down a little bit and then hike up to the main peak. At this point the trail becomes narrow and very rocky. At the summit you can enjoy your lunch sitting at a picnic table. At the summit there is an operational lookout tower, with a helipad. There are No Trespassing signs, and the station was manned. They do not want you up there.
This trail is used for hiking, mountain biking, and trail runners. I saw people doing all three on my hike. Make sure you bring lots of water with you because once you get above tree line, there is no shade. I brought 3 liters with me and had just enough. Today I hiked 15.3km out and back with an elevation gain of 835m. The summit is at an elevation of 2433m.
This trail is in the Bragg Creek area, I have wanted to hike this for a few years now, and I am so glad I finally did it. A must do hike if you are in the Bragg Creek area.
I am now filming in 4K with my GoPro Hero 9.
This is my 59th video. Thank you very much for watching. If you enjoyed this video please give it a thumbs up. If you would like to see my other hiking videos, subscribe to my channel, LIVE ON Alberta. I feature over 55 different videos. CHEERS
