World's most scenic approach! Santos Dumont Rio de Janeiro

Описание: Watch one of the best and most scenic landing approaches in the world at Santos Dumont Airport in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Flight from São Paulo Guarulhos Airport (GRU) to Rio de Janeiro Santos Dumont (SDU) on PR-GVX a Boeing 737-800 delivered to GOL in June, 2013.

The approach to this airport is called "rabo de vaca" (cow tail) due to the shape described by the landing path. This might be one of the best landing approaches in the world.
SDU has two short runways (02-20) of 1323 and 1260 m.

In this video you will see during the approach the Maracanã Stadium, Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer), lots of favelas, the Pão de Açúcar (Sugar Loaf) and Ponte Niteroi (Niteroi Bridge).
Check out the hard braking after touch down. In order to operate at this airport fully loaded, Boeing had to increase the performance of the 737-800. That included a two-position tail skid that enables reduced approach speeds, sealed leading-edge slats that provide increased lift during takeoff, and increased flight spoiler deflection on the ground that improves take-off and landing performance.
Airbus has to adapt the A320 to be able to operate at full load at this
airport. So far, the airlines can only operate here with A319 or A318 and E190/195. That means that they are losing passengers to GOL, which flies with an airplane capable of carrying 177 passengers.

My seat is 22F. I chose to be on the right side in order to have a better view of the beautiful beaches and islands of the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. This is a scenic flight actually. The scenery is amazing.
