Speedrunning is pretty easy here, but it seems a lot of people don't really know how to get things going on a Linux distro. Decided to make a video to help a bit with that.
Keep the following in mind:
If your distro can't do what's shown, do something similar instead. Not all packages and/or processes are the same across distros. That said, mine is Arch-based which makes it kinda like the O- blood type for doing shit: if I can do something here, most likely your distro has a function that's the same or close.
This was tested with an XOrg (X11 specifically) setup, not Wayland. It might work on Wayland, but I'll need community feedback to know. (i'm tech -savvy, not as linux-savvy though lol)
---- You could probably try the 'xorg-xwayland' package if X really is the only way, if you're on a Wayland build.
This specifically works using Proton on Steam, which is Valve's homemade kind of WINE compatibility tools for running games. The method I show might work on base WINE but I have not tried so I don't know.
LiveSplit is a buggy mess in general. Expect pain regardless of the OS you're on.
Packages that are pretty much tantamount (again, these are on Arch. get the packages you need for your distro):
steam
steam-native-runtime (personal choice but still)
wine
wine-gecko
wine-mono
winetricks
protontricks
Optional packages:
protonup-qt-bin (allows easy updating of third party Proton tools, like GE)
obs-studio-git (speedrunning usually needs video proof, so yeah)
cef-minimal-obs-bin (obs needs Chromium framework for browser source etc)
obs-vkcapture-git (for OpenGL and Vulkan direct game capping)
lib32-obs-vkcapture-git
