BEYOND: MEMOIRS IN A TIME LAPSE

Описание: I've finally re-mastered my time-lapse film, "Beyond: Memoirs in a Time Lapse" in 4k. Originally released in 2013, this film was a deeply personal exploration of the incredible architectural and urban transformation of the UAE, focusing on Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Bringing "Beyond" to life was a monumental effort for me, taking 2.5 year* from start to finish. It involved capturing footage across the country from challenging and often hard-to-access locations, including skyscraper rooftops, Jebel Ali Port, various factories, constructions site and Dubai International Airport. I shot over 225,000 still frames, eventually using 11,250, and dedicated six months just to the editing phase. My goal was to go beyond the obvious, to find unique, rarely seen vantage points that would reveal the dynamic life, architectural balance, and rapid evolution of these cities. Time-lapse, for me, is pure magic – it allows you to compress years into minutes, making the unseen visible and highlighting the profound changes happening around us. It stands as a visual memoir of a country that has transformed dramatically, but also for my personal growth as a time-lapse artist.

Integral to the film's immersive experience is the accompanying music suite, composed by Vladimir Persan. Having collaborated previously on my "Abu Dhabi 2011" time-lapse, my aim for "Beyond" was to create a soundtrack that would not only empower the visuals but also capture the sense of elation I felt witnessing the city's transformations. We sought a careful balance between Western and Arabic contemporary arrangements to reflect Abu Dhabi's unique identity as a modern global city rooted in Islamic values. Vladimir viewed the film as "like an organism" and felt the music needed to match its inherent drama and scale.

Upon its original release, "Beyond: Memoirs in a Time Lapse" gained significant attention, being widely shared and recognised by various media and public figures. Presenting it now in 4K allows for an even clearer appreciation of the intricate details and the immense effort that went into capturing this pivotal period of the UAE's history.
