Markha Valley Trek is a popular tourist route in Ladakh region, territory of Jammu and Kashmir state, North India.
This video describes five days solo trip from Chilling camping ground to Karu settlement.
Starts from crossing Markha river near Chilling, trail leads to Skyu village (3500 masl) with an ancient buddhist monastery there; next day trail going along the river valley through Sara village to Markha village, that is relatively big.
There are also buddhist monastery, a few tourist camps and a plenty of possibilities for home stay; from Markha village only a few hours walking to Hangkar settlement, where the most of travelers making a stop per night for better acclimatization; the altitude of that point is 4050 masl.
The last camping ground before the highest point of the trek is Nemaling (4850 masl) - from there about two hours of steep climb to Gongmaru La pass (5150 masl).
From the pass a 1400 meters descent leads through rocky gorge to Chokdo village, where travelers can take a rest (Korpon home stay is recommended), and continue trekking next day - from Hemis village to Karu settlement;
Karu is connected by bus with Leh city, where the most of tourists getting back after complete this trek.
