That stuffed chicken breast may be filled with more than just cheese.
It could also contain salmonella bacteria — if it's a Barber Foods brand frozen, raw, stuffed chicken product, such as chicken cordon bleu. This infection risk prompted an expanded recall of over 1.7 million pounds of these chicken products.
This recall expands a July 2 recall of the same products due to possible salmonella contamination.
According to a US Department of Agriculture (USDA) press release, at least six people are thought to have been sickened in Wisconsin and Minnesota after eating the products in question. Those products include Chicken Cordon Bleu, Chicken Broccoli Cheese, Chicken Tenders and Chicken Kiev — all from Barber Foods, a Maine-based company.
