Most dog owners think colitis is just: A sensitive stomach, Something they ate .Or “just inflammation”
But from a naturopathic perspective, colitis is rarely random. It’s a protective response.
The colon becomes inflamed when the body is trying to eliminate something it cannot process safely.
Today I’m going to share the 3 most overlooked triggers for colitis in dogs — and they are not what most people think. For those of you who don’t know me my name is Lyndall pinchen and I’ve been a human and animal naturopath for over 35 years . Welcome and thankyou for being here and if you are new to my channel, thankyou for stopping by.. On my channel I share naturopathic tips and advice for helping your dog live a longer healthier life naturally. Keep watching to the end today as I’ll share a bonus tip to help your dog even further.
Trigger 1. NERVOUS SYSTEM OVERLOAD
This is the one almost no one talks about.
The colon is deeply wired to the autonomic nervous system — especially the vagus nerve.
When a dog lives in chronic Hypervigilance, Anxiety, Environmental stress, Chemical stress, Loud households or Unpredictable routines, The colon goes into defensive mode. Stress reduces blood flow to digestion. It reduces enzyme production. It alters gut motility or intestinal contraction
The result?? Mucus in stool, Urgency to pass stools, Blood in the stool and Spasms
From a naturopathic perspective, colitis is often a sympathetic dominance problem, not just a food problem. The colon is reacting to a dog that never feels safe.
Some colitis cases resolve more from calming the nervous system than from changing the protein sources. Consider Nervines like chamomile, Magnesium glycinate, a Predictable routine and c the olfactory nerve with herbs like lavender and holy basil.
