The foundation of the technique taught in these videos is the Toscanini/Barzin school of conducting, taught in the UK by George Hurst at the course he founded in 1960 at Canford Summer School of Music. The technique teaches fluent, expressive use of the baton, an independent left hand and integrated use of the body. It is applicable to orchestras, choirs (including choral conductors who work without a baton), bands, professional and amateur ensembles and those who work in music education.
