Ryan: How's it going Ryan here at etrailer.com. Today on our 2010 Jeep Wrangler, we're going to be taking a look at it and showing you how to install the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect. Whenever you're flat towing your Jeep, since it is required to disconnect the battery, our disconnect switch is going to make it a whole lot easier. You're not going to have to get underneath the hood, keep track of your tools, and physically disconnect your battery every single time. With the Automatic Battery Disconnect, you're not going to have to worry about doing that. All you're going to simply have to do is push a button here inside of the cab of our Jeep. So to give you an example, I'll put my key in the ignition and turn it forward.
And as you can see, all of our gauge lights illuminate, but whenever we push our disconnect button, it'll completely kill power and we know we're good to hook it up to flat tow. Now, whenever we get to our destination, as opposed to having to get under the hood and remember to hook everything back up, all we're going to have to do is push that button again and that'll send power back to our Jeep. Now, keep in mind, our wiring is just one of five main components needed to flat tow our Jeep down the road. The other four are going to include your base plate, your tow bar, a braking system as well as safety cables. And since all it consists of is a few simple components, it's really not going to be all that bad to get installed. Speaking of which, let's do that together now.
So the first thing you're going to want to do is find a place to mount your solenoid. The spot that I did it is right here on this piece of plastic next to our battery. So we're going to have some included hardware, and that's what I use to mount it. So I just drill two small holes through the plastic and secured it just like that. Now, the way I secured our solenoid is just to use some of the included hardware and I set this up here against this plastic and drilled two small holes large enough to get our hardware through. Then just pushed the solenoid over the hardware, put the nuts on and tighten everything down.
From there, what we can do is take our small, white wire, and that's actually going to be a ground wire. So what I did was ran it down and along through here towards the passenger side of our Jeep. And so that white ground wire just comes through here, and at the end of it, I routed it to this factory ground stud right here. So at the end of the wire, you're just going to crimp on a green terminal, remove this nut with a 10 millimeter wrench, slide that ring terminal over the ground stud, and then just tighten your nut back down.So then what you would do is come over here to your positive battery terminal and disconnect any wires that's on the stud. Once all those wires are out of the way, you'd simply take the thick red wire coming from our solenoid that is labeled battery post, slide that wire over that battery stud and in our case, we have a few components that need power all the time, such as our charge line, our braking system, as well as our brake light switch, so I hook those components onto the post as well and tighten the nut back down. Now the remaining wires that you took off that positive post will simply go to the other thick red wire coming from our solenoid that's labeled battery cable.
So the way that works is you're going to put those wires together and then it's going to come included with a bolt. So you'll drop that bolt through all of those terminals that are already attached to the wires, tighten it down, and then make sure to tape it up really nice. From there, we can run our gray wire, which is for the switch to the inside of our cab. So here's the path that I took. I simply just followed some factory wiring here along the firewall over to the driver's side and then I was able to drop it down into a hole that we made into the firewall to get it into the cab. And here's where that hole in the firewall is that I ran our wire through, and from there, I just ran it up towards the side of our dash. And then what you're able to do is simply just take the side panel off, which simply just pulls away, run your wire up into this area, and then just zip tie it to keep it secured and up for the time being. From there, what you would do is simply just drill a hole in your dash just big enough to pu
