He rejected allegations raised by the YSRCP and challenged party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to a public debate on the issue. Responding to criticism of the teacher recruitment drive, Lokesh said the process was conducted transparently and in accordance with Central government norms, Supreme Court directions, and reservation policies. He reiterated his challenge to Jagan, saying he was prepared to debate the issue either inside or outside the Assembly. “Fix the date and time. I am ready to debate. Come to the House and let us discuss this,” Lokesh said. Highlighting what he described as one of the fastest teacher recruitment drives in the country, Lokesh said the government filled 16,347 teacher posts within 148 days of coming to power. According to the minister, 3.36 lakh candidates submitted 5.77 lakh applications for the recruitment. Despite facing 336 court cases, the government completed the process and issued appointment orders to 15,941 selected candidates. Criticising the previous YSRCP government, Lokesh alleged that no DSC or major teacher recruitment exercise was conducted between 2019 and 2024. He claimed that nearly 12 lakh students shifted from government schools to private institutions during that period and accused the previous administration of weakening the public education system. Lokesh said the coalition government had prioritised teacher recruitment and expanded the One Class-One Teacher system from a small percentage of schools to nearly 10,000 schools across the state. Lokesh alleged that 141 cases were filed within 148 days by YSRCP leaders and others to stop the Mega DSC recruitment process. According to him, the government analysed shortcomings in previous recruitment notifications using artificial intelligence and prepared a legally robust notification that successfully withstood judicial scrutiny. Despite the litigation, the government completed recruitment, issued appointment orders and placed selected teachers in schools, he said.
