Mark Waugh said," During the 1954 Sri Lanka match series I had given information about the weather and pitch.But I never mentioned anything about the lineup. For that, I got 6000 dollars"
Shane Warne also gave a statement saying," I am terribly upset by this incident. I was given punishment by the board and returned the money immediately to the board.I always have played faithfully for my country".

These two Australian cricketers were given the money during the 1954 Sri Lanka Pakistan series in exchange of which they had given information about pitch and weather."

The Australian Cricket Board (ACB), which had kept the information secret for years, finally admitted that two of their cricketing icons Mark Waugh and Shane Warne had been paid to provide information to an Indian bookmaker during the Singer Cup in Sri Lanka in 1994.
It was an enormous shock to the cricket community and beyond. The assumptions on which Australian cricket has been built were shattered.Inevitably the backlash has been severe. Australian Prime Minister John Howard expressed fury at ACB's coverup. Questions were asked in Parliament. Radio stations featured nothing else as callers vented their anger.
