Built during the Spanish colonial period in 1765, the church stands on top of a hill overlooking the town. Its elevated location, massive brick walls, and unique fortress-like design make it one of the most distinctive colonial churches in the country.
Because of its historical and architectural importance, Sta. Maria Church was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Baroque Churches of the Philippines.

Beautiful Spanish-Era Architecture
The church features thick red-brick walls, massive buttresses, and classic Baroque architecture that has stood strong for more than two centuries.
