Griffith Park Old Zoo Loop, Los Angeles, Ca. 90027

Описание: Welcome to Pathfinders! Today we are hiking the Griffith Park Old Zoo Loop, located off of Griffith Park Dr. in Los Angeles, CA 90027. This trail loops around to the zoo, passing by it on the last leg of the path. The beginning has one or two hills, but after that it's pretty easy. There are some good vistas and a bit of history.

The zoo was founded in 1912 as a replacement for the existing outdated East Lake Zoo which was built in 1885. Unfortunately the Griffith Park Zoo was abandoned in 1966. The animals were then moved to its new neighbor 2 miles down the road at the LA Zoo, which is still the main zoo in Los Angeles today. The Griffith park zoo was often frequented by Walt Disney and his family. Walt Disney's animators also regularly took field trips to this zoo to sketch the animals and so that they could better understand their anatomy and the way they moved. These field trips helped the animators with their production of the movie Bambi. The zoo was also featured in a number of TV shows. Starsky and Hutch, CHIPS, Anchorman, and Aquarius. You'll be able to go into the cages and enclosures. Immediately seeing how far modern zoos have come, but also getting a glimpse into what it used to be like in the 1910's. I enjoyed this trail and the history of this place. It's a great trip for the family. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
