Alternatively, you can also reach Gangotri by train. The nearest railway station is at Rishikesh, which is about 250 kilometers from Gangotri. From Rishikesh, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Gangotri. The journey by train and road takes about 12-13 hours in total.
