Lake Ontario is the smallest great lake by surface area, and the second smallest by volume. Lake Ontario is also at the lowest elevation above sea level than the other four lakes. The St. Lawrence River, which connects the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean, starts in Lake Ontario. But just like the other four lakes, Lake Ontario has a deadly reputation when it comes to shipwrecks. Thousands of wrecks lay at the bottom of the Lake, many of them are poorly documented, and remain undiscovered.
