Jean-Baptiste Lully: Je languis nuit et jour (1670)

Описание: This aria appears near the beginning of the Comedy-Ballet "Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme" (LWV 43) a multimedia music and dance production for the royal theater in Chambord for King Louis XIV's court. The satirical play and overall concept were the work of Molière. The music was written by Jean-Baptiste Lully, a French composer of Italian origin.

The vocal simulation was created using the Solaria voice bank and Synthesizer V. The instrumental sounds of oboe, harpsichord, cello, double bass and theorbo were generated using Music Studio 2.0. The harpsichord realization based on a figured bass was arranged by Théau Lizon and the score can be viewed on Musescore.com.

Je languis nuit et jour, et mon mal est extreme
De puis qu'a ont rigueurs nos beaux yeux m'ont soumis
Si vous traitez ainsi, belle Iris qui vous aime,
Hélas, que pouriez vous faire a vos ennemis

Translation:

I languish night and day, my suffering is extreme.
Since to your control your lovely eyes subjected me;
If you thus treat, fair Iris, those you love [in this way],
Alas, how would you treat an enemy?
