Hello! Here we are at the end of another year of creating incredible transformations together and here I am, for the 23rd straight year as the founding CEO of Solutions for Change, getting to do something I can never do enough…and that is to thank you for BEING HERE and investing your time, energy, and resources into transforming lives for the homeless families we help! Above all I want to Thank you for standing with us in this very special space and doing what you do!

I call that place sacred because it is in that very place where real and permanent change occurs…and it only occurs today… STILL…because of YOU. Being in that place with you and the families we serve is more rewarding than you will ever know. And…it is also more challenging than you will ever know.

But in those challenges is where we can discover the most special of opportunities…and that is why I am connecting with you here now. I have a special opportunity to present to you…but first I want to be sure that you know what we mean when we refer to a place that is sacred. It is in this exact place where we have made a stand for the families and folks like you… it is here that we have chosen to fight for our families…and candidly…FOR YOU!

I want to be very clear here. I need every person watching this to understand that we are fighting FOR our families NOT against anything or anyone. Sometimes our passion, or MY passion, for WHY we do what we do comes across that we are against other nonprofits or the people who work in this field. NOT TRUE…we are lovers, givers, and builders of good will...not haters. But to be very clear…in order to fight for our families we have to protect them from a state sponsored homelessness response system that has gone…completely and totally bonkers! Let me give you just one of the many definitions of bonkers:

Child Welfare Services at the County of San Diego refers many parents us because we are a safe and drug free place for children…but the County’s Homelessness and Housing department will not fund even ONE of our programs, not even ONE taxpayer dollar, because we keep all of our places drug free! Just two weeks ago the Board of Supervisors ended Board Policy A-110 the Zero Tolerance for Illegal Drug Activity in Taxpayer funded housing!

Huh?!!?? Sounds like a made for TV drama show!! But for the families here and for you it is zero drama and ALL very very real to the 728 parents and kids we serve every day in our programs around NC.
It gets really serious when you hear what I am going to say next…and herein is that special opportunity discovered in the middle of a dark challenge…

By this time next year, if we can’t turn the tide, we will have ONLY half of the 228 units of safe drug free housing left within our management control because we WILL NOT run taxpayer funded drug housing! For that reason, ONLY, we are having to transfer our places…We’ve tried lawyers and appeals and letters…nothing is working because we realize that we cannot win on their field of play…we need to build a NEW field of play…and there is ONLY one way we are going to do that…and that is with YOU…You have always been the HERO of this story…and now it is time to dash into a phone booth and put on your cape.

In these last four days of 2022 I am coming to you to ask for your help to keep our places safe and drug free for the parents and their children who have taken a big leap out of the churn of homelessness and dependency and into a place that they want so that they can transform their lives. Will you help stand with our families and help us protect them and their kids? I am asking you to do that for these families, and I am also asking you to do it to make a statement that our safe and drug free housing is off limits.

The statement that YOU make today through your donation will help us to build a new field of play, where tolerating illegal drug activity and promoting lifelong dependency are not cool…and will not be allowed…not in this place…not in this sacred space…where we stand with you.
