Often referred to as the Father of Modern Pan-Africanism, W.E.B. Du Bois was a towering scholar, activist, and organizer. Between 1919 and 1945, he organized a series of Pan-African Congresses that brought together Black intellectuals, political leaders, and activists from Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, and the Americas.
Du Bois believed that the liberation of Black people globally required both intellectual rigor and political action. He consistently linked the struggle of African Americans to the fate of colonized Africans, arguing that racism and imperialism were global systems that demanded a united response. His eventual move to Ghana in his later years symbolized his lifelong commitment to Africa and Pan-African unity.
